Senior SAP MM Consultant — SAP S/4HANA
Procure-to-pay architecture · SAP domain
A configuration authority, not a workshop facilitator. This mandate is for the consultant who builds the materials-management backbone a Dutch corporate still relies on three years after go-live.

How to approach this mandate
No application form. No CV portal. Read the position brief, then speak with Harald directly, under confidence.
The client is not named here. On an engaged mandate the client's hiring intent is commercially sensitive, so the organisation is identified to you under confidence in the first partner conversation — not published to their competitors.
The remit
Why this role exists now. And what it carries.
The Netherlands is mid-way through the largest ERP transition in a generation. Migration off SAP ECC to S/4HANA is funded and live inside most mid-to-large Dutch corporates, and the window narrows as mainstream maintenance on ECC ends in 2027.
Materials management is where those programmes most often slip. Procure-to-pay touches procurement, finance and warehouse simultaneously; material ledger activation in S/4HANA is mandatory rather than optional; and data migration for material master, vendor master, open POs and stock balances rarely survives first contact with a real landscape. The scarce profile is the consultant who is genuinely hands-on in the system, not only in the workshop.
The client is running an active S/4HANA implementation and needs the MM authority the project team defers to — through configuration, integration testing, cutover and hypercare.
What the role carries
- Own the functional architecture for procure-to-pay, inventory management, valuation and invoice verification, from requirements through blueprint sign-off.
- Configure SAP MM hands-on in S/4HANA environments and lead unit, integration and UAT cycles.
- Lead fit-gap and blueprint sessions with procurement directors, CFOs and warehouse managers, translating Dutch business requirements into S/4HANA-aligned process design.
- Manage functional specifications for ABAP developments — enhancements, BADIs, user exits and ME* transaction extensions.
- Configure and troubleshoot cross-module interdependencies with FI/CO, SD, LE and PP across the procure-to-pay cycle.
- Lead data migration for material master, vendor master, open purchase orders and stock balances, then drive cutover planning and hypercare.
- Guide medior and junior consultants through solution reviews and quality gates, and hold documentation standards.
The brief
The challenge, the mandate, and the impact.
The challenge
The client's S/4HANA programme has scope, budget and a deadline, but no settled MM authority. Procure-to-pay design decisions are being deferred, material ledger and valuation questions sit unresolved, and migration objects for material and vendor master are unowned. The constraint is hands-on functional depth, not project governance.
The mandate
Reports into the lead SAP architect. Full functional ownership of the MM scope — blueprint, configuration, integration testing, cutover and hypercare — with specification authority over ABAP developments in scope and quality-gate responsibility for medior and junior consultants. No line management; the authority is technical.
The impact
- 6 months
- Assigned MM scope configured, integration-tested and signed off; go-live delivered or final testing advanced; recognised as the MM authority by both project team and client.
- 12 months
- Hypercare closed out, the procure-to-pay backbone stable under real volume, and next-phase or rollout scope shaped rather than inherited.
